Do I Qualify For The Criminal Legal Aid Scheme?
Published on 11th September, 2016 by Desmond Ong

You need to apply in person at the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS) office for criminal legal aid if you are out on bail.
You need to apply through your remand institution for criminal legal aid if you are in remand.
To qualify for CLAS, you need to pass the following two tests:
- The Means Test
- The Merits Test
The Means Test evaluates your financial situation to see if CLAS will provide you with financial aid.
The Merits Test evaluates your case to see if your matter has merits in the eye of the law.
If the CLAS office evaluates that you have passed both the Means Test and the Merits Test, it will seek to pair you up with a volunteer lawyer who is willing to take on your matter on a pro bono basis.
